project 3: memory container

This project was very challenging. My memory was the first time I ever took a photograph. It is amazing to me that we are able to capture such tiny, exact moments in time forever. My initial idea for the project was something completely different: a memory about a tree swing one of my friends had. It was difficult for me to choose one emotion to work with for the swing memory, so I changed it.
The photo negatives curled up represent the "captured moment." In theory, when pulled, the negatives would snap back quickly, like the shutter on a camera. This idea however, was unsuccesful, even in my end result. I do like my final, but I wish that I'd made the curls enclose the middle more, so by itself if would sit how it does when you squeeze it in your hand. I do like how you can make it more enclosed with your hand, showing how it is up to you to decide which moment to capture with the camera.

For the final, I still wanted the negatives to be completely closed when they curled, so I left them in curlers overnight. :) It didn't work though, and I ended up just leaving them open. I don't have any pictures of my second iteration because I had to take it apart for the final and forgot to get pictures of it! :( Next time I wont forget.
