hagia sophia drawing

This assignment was a lot of fun! We were each assigned a small square that we had to blow up to 1 x 1.. the end result is so cool! My square is the top right corner piece :) The photo is of the interior of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey.

a leaf :)

This assignment was fun to do, I liked being able to play around with all the different tecniques to make a whole drawing. I do wish that I had thought about my layout more, because I am not too pleased with the outcome. I was going for a bunch of different sections of the leaf blown up, to make one big one. The problem was that the leaf I picked wasn't wide enough to strech all nine squares, so there are some parts I had to repeat. Overall, I think it looks pretty good. Our last drawing assignment for the semester :( But I will be drawing over break, I promise!!

My favorites are the middle and right ones on the bottom row.. and the contour in the very center.

These took forever to do! But they look pretty cool. I'm am pretty nervous about presenting tomorrow, but I think I'll be okay!

time capsule drawings

These scanned horribly, I'll try again today.




Still couldn't get them to scan in looking too great.. but I think these turned out okay. I added in the black marker to make my time capsule stand out against the lights, ceiling beams, and cubicles in the background.
The thumbnail sketches were done before I finalized my design, so it changed a little when I did the large one. The big one is the best interpretation of what it will look like!

process booklet sketches

Here are my thumbnail sketches I did while looking through magazines to get ideas for the time capsule process booklet.



We were to focus on the lightness and darkness factor the text and images create in order to get a really good idea of what the page looks like, rather than just a white box for a picture. I think these really helped me in organizing my booklet- it's important to have a good balance of value on the pages.
I will also use these for my final time capsule critique.

more model drawings

These are the two new drawings of my models from the detail charette.




I like the first one a lot better than the 2nd. It was really difficult to show how these models were made out of clear plastic, and I'm not sure I even did that in my drawings.
I think I like drawing in pen more than pencil!

i can draw?

I have no idea what was going on with me today, but I really like these! I hardly ever like my drawings from the excersizes we do in class. Maybe I should draw lots today because something is working out!

so many cubessssss

I am so sick of drawing cubes! We did so many, but I like this one the best. :)

first time capsule models

This is my favorite idea so far. Hanging panel "drawers" (one for each student to put things in) that would create a snake like pattern above the first year studio area. I really like the idea of having the time capsule become a part of the first year studio space, as well as every having their own space to put things in, just like the studio.





This one was another idea I had: hanging tubes that got larger with each year. Didn't like that one as much.



Another idea (that I definitely did not want to even attempt to draw!) Of stacked tubes in a "jenga" like form. I liked this one, but I think the hanging one has more qualities I think are important for the capsule.

last cube!

Here are some pictures of the "final" cube I made. I did bristol board this time, which was a lot simpler to make than the foam core one. It was a lot cleaner too, but the glue I chose to use did not work very well.
I think it came out pretty good, except for a few spots where glue was showing, or the corner didn't match up perfectly.
I did a 4 and 2 cut out pattern with tabs on some sides.

color!

I felt like I needed some color in my sketchbook. It doesn't look exactly like my backpack, but I kind of like it. :)

shading exercises 2.1-2.3 (the best of?)

For part one of this assignment, we had to take flat contour figures from our book and shade them so they appeared 3D. The circular staircase one was a bit of a challenge, but I had fun doing it, and I like how it turned out in the end. The information in the chapter was also very helpful to read before trying these out.

not so perfect cube

This week in our drawing class, we're studying platonic forms. This assignment is all about having precise and perfect craft. I chose foam core for mine, and I had a lot of problems. I think I used way to much (and not the right kind of) glue. I also had difficulty cutting out perfect squares.




The next one is due Thursday! I hope I don't end up having to make 10 of these things!

shading excersizes

I'm not so sure how I feel about shading yet... I was really starting to enjoy contours, the first time in my life when I felt confident about my drawing.. and now we're throwing in shading! It will take some getting used to. When it come to the different styles, I like cross hatching a lot on sketches, but for more finished drawings, I like the diagonal or smudged styles best. I get frustrated easily when doing shading, because I never know if I am doing it correctly or not. It will take some practice!

It was beautiful outside today! I'm glad we got some time to draw in class again.


I like these, but some of my proportions are way off. I also could not get the depth in all the trees in the second one.

zine project: lights!

For this project, I researched different lights in magazines such as Metropolis, Interior Design, and Dwell. This project was fun because I love really cool light fixtures! This is also one small part of our big design research project.

side view portraits

While doing these profile portraits, I really felt like I had no idea what I was doing. But they turned out looking okay! The top one is of my boyfriend, Garrett, and the bottom on is of my Mom. I really like Garrett's the best, I feel like my Mom's looks to cartoony, although I did do her's on a plane to New York, so there you go!
The method we learned for doing profile portraits was really helpful and really easy to follow. I am nervous about doing frontal face views though.

tate street coffee

Went back to the coffee shop last night to play some Scrabble! I like this a lot.

We were supposed to utilize all of the things we've been learning about contour drawings for this one. I really want to try again, because I messed up in a few areas, and the hockey skate does not look how I wanted it too. I'll post another soon! (And also more people drawings!)

Also, did this one with my new size 01 (is this the correct way to identify it?) pen! I love the really thin line it makes.
