today was an experience. slightly overwhelmed with new routines, faces, and tasks, but ecstatic nonetheless. i had a blast today working on pieces for the new window displays, "weft & weave". i can't wait to get back to it-- it's going to be a very interesting summer!
process notes: the main supporting reeds were soaked first in water to make them more manageable. we then collected 9 or 11 reeds in a bunch and bound them, using anything round (bicycle wheels, serving trays, cardboard) to hold the shape, and then wove and wove and wove around it- until we could remove the forms. we used 3 different shades of reeds for weaving- some natural, medium stained, and smoked- gluing the ends of each piece together to continue the spiral.
