For this project, we were to use only (and all pieces of) an 18" 2x4 to create a self-sustaining system. For my concept, I at first wanted to do something that could be interacted with and moved, but none of my ideas worked out. I then decided to come up with something that was representative of something that moved, and I came up with the ocean. The ocean is a never-ceasing pattern of waves, a natural system. I used the band saw to cut long curves in the wood, and then arranged the pattern, holding the pieces in place with notches in the straight pieces. All of the pieces are dependent upon each other to complete the pattern. This project was really fun to do, I loved working in the wood shop. It also makes some really cool shadows in the light!
